While at school I gained experience in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Power distribution through valuable work placements at the Island's power station. This experience helped me decide on a degree course to undertake at university. I had the opportunity to work with the maintenance team as well as the Plant manager giving an overview of how the power station was run at different levels. I read Electrical Engineering at Newcastle university and completed 8 week work placements at my sponsoring company each summer working on various projects with different teams gaining experience in the key areas associated with Control Techniques. I spent 2 years on the graduate scheme, working within different departments, gaining basic experience in a wide range of areas. Following on from that I progressed into a full time Power Electronics Engineer role and worked on development of the latest generation servo product & large frame size 500kW drive.Since moving to YASA I have gained valuable experience in the automotive industry & widened my knowledge of power electronics. My main focus at YASA is on SiC power devices for inverter development.
