3663 is part of the Bidvest Group, an international investment holding company listed on the South African Stock Exchange. 3663 is one of the UK’s leading Foodservice companies with sales of circa £1billion per annum. 3663 supply quality ingredients, finished products and equipment to a wide and diverse range of customers ranging from large national caterers, large institutions (prisons, hospitals, care homes, schools and universities) and smaller independent customers (pubs, restaurants and sporting venues). Product ranges focus around frozen, chilled, ambient and non food products along with wines, fine foods and catering equipment.At the start of 2010 I was appointed Regional Managing Director, on the 3663 Board, with full P&L responsibility for 33% of the UK business, with a team including Fieldsales and Telesales staff across sites throughout “The Midlands” from Norwich to Swansea and Nottingham to Reading.

I joined the 3663 Board as Operations Director with responsibility for 32 operational sites, across two Business Divisions, throughout the UK. They had merged the Divisions and my initial challenge was the integration of the operational infrastructure.Completed 3 year strategic review of the 3663 supply chain.Completed major change programme with the integration of 2 trading divisions comprising 32 Distribution Centres, resulting in the closure of 10 sites.Delivered Year 1 savings of 10% through depot network realignment, increased focus on cost control and optimising operational performance.Conducted review of product availability and associated processes and controls generating significant improvements in order fulfilment.Implemented revised Organisational Structure. I was the Christian Salvesen lead on a project to review and redesign Marks and Spencer’s global supply chain, working collaboratively with a number of their key partners, with case study visits to Europe and America. The project included the design of 1million sq. ft. Distribution Centres, design of operational and automation processes and selection of IT partners. These new sites were highly automated facilities handling boxed and hanging goods, serving retail and E-commerce channels with a workforce of circa 2500 colleagues per site. Prior to this, on joining Christian Salvesen, I had responsibility for a number of Key Accounts which included the Marks and Spencer E-commerce operations in 2 sites at Warrington and Sheffield, a Morrisons Distribution Centre in Bellshill, Scotland, and additional responsibility for new projects including the development of a new Port Centric inbound logistics site and developing new client relationships.

Blacks Leisure Group were operating a £297million turnover retail business, trading from 448 stores across 4 fascias. When I joined they were operating from 4 warehouses and in the process of planning to build a new purpose built Distribution Centre. Over a 14 month period I managed and stabilised the existing operations, was responsible for the build, operational design and fit out of the new Distribution Centre; and migrated the operations into the new site. The new Distribution Centre was 160,000sq.ft. with multi tier mezzanine floors providing 360,000sq.ft. of storage and operational space, with an average stockholding of 1.5 million stock units across 15,000 sku’s. During this time I led significant cultural change in preparation for the consolidation of 4 diverse cultures into the new Distribution Centre and implemented a cost effective retail focused logistics service creating a platform for future business growth. I worked closely with the Trading Director reviewing store operations, stockroom management and store replenishment. In addition, I was a member of the Operating Board and actively contributed to the strategic development of the business.
