Founder & Program Leader - Digital Innovation Skills Certificate

Inspired by my work on the board of advisors for the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre, I built an incredible team that created and executed the Digital Innovation Skills Certificate (DISC). DISC is a graduate certificate program built in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth, Wilfrid Laurier University, the City of Kitchener, Conestoga College, Shopify and Hubspot. This experiential learning opportunity trained 60 top graduates from across Ontario how to implement and execute e-commerce and digital marketing best practices inside of Canadian businesses. Through the support of expert coaching, teams completed 10 paid practice projects to create and launch real ecommerce stores and complimentary digital marketing campaigns to help Canadian businesses catalyzing their success online. This program placed 59/60 graduates in new jobs, and was successful in fundraising $500,000 of support from the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth, and $500,000 in cash and in-kind contributions from partners.

From September 2015 - May 2016 I was asked to return to Laurier as an interim leader to guide their campus-linked accelerator, LaunchPad, through a significant leadership and program transition.The Schlegel Centre operates within the School of Business and Economics and achieves its aspirational vision by working collaboratively with all Laurier faculties (Arts, Music, Social Work and Science) and Campuses (Waterloo, Brantford, Kitchener, Toronto). Its goal is that all students at Laurier have the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship. It also engages Laurier alumni to participate in its wide ranging programs.The Laurier Launchpad Program profiled at www.laurierentrepreneur.ca is a key program designed and delivered by the Schlegel Centre to achieve its’ goals. Launchpad is a university based accelerator program. It is an experiential based learning opportunity for students and alumni to discover validate and launch an innovative new venture. The Program employs lean methodology and the latest methods in experiential management to eliminate risk and increase the chances of creating a successful startup.As the Program Leader I wear multiple hats focused on: - Leading and executing the operations of the Launchpad Program as we continue to scale the Laurier Launchpad in Waterloo, Brantford and Six Nations.- Providing active coaching and management to 30+ teams in LaunchPad Start & Scale program. - Designing, creating and managing an active LaunchPad Mentoring program.- Stewarding the creation of a new LaunchPad Science initiative- Representing Laurier in the Waterloo Region entrepreneurship ecosystem to ensure that Laurier contributes, participates and is recognized appropriately.
