As a contract engineering consultant to Transmax, held a number of senior positions in the company, helping it grow from 25 to 90 people between 2002 to 2010. Positions included:* Trainer - built training capability and material for STREAMS* Traffic Engineering Manager - built this team from nothing* Engineering Services Manager - brought systems engineering lifecycle rigour to the processes* Business Development Manager - demonstrated and consulted with clients to develop solutions

Developed and presented training courses on HP1000 hardware and software for the software development and support staff. Structured analysis of the software used in the Traffic Signal Controllers to create a design object model of the software implementation. Communications consultant for the development of a real-time display to show Traffic operation using PCs connected to the HP1000 TRAC Computer. The PC software ran under Windows with a number of modules dynamically exchanging data to show the current status of the Traffic. The displays were prepared using AutoCad which had been customized with some AutoLisp functions. Modifications to the HP1000 8-channel multiplexer card to remove a bottle-neck in system throughput. The project was done in conjunction with other consultants and involved modifying the firmware on the Z80-based multiplexer card and by-passing the HP1000 drivers for the card. The overhead for I/O operations decreased by between 50 and 80%, depending on the system.Enhancements to the Freeway Monitoring and Control System. This includes management of the project, the analysis, design, and specification of the extensions to the system, the supervision of programmers, systems programming to incorporate the new features, installation of new hardware and software and systems testing.Provided consultancy services to Telstra on their Mission-Critical Network Certification Project. Produced a toolkit of procedures and practices for conducting the audits of Telstra’s Mission-Critical networks. Member of the Telstra Corporate LAN Standards Committee. The committee defined and managed the implementation of a new corporate standard for Telecom’s 1200+ file servers and 35,000+ workstations. This was a group of 15 chosen to develop and test a standard LAN platform suitable for the requirements of all of Telecom’s business units for the 500+ software applications.

Worked as an Electrical Engineer in the Traffic Systems Development Section developing a system called the Traffic Responsive Area Control System (or TRAC System - the predecessor to STREAMS) which controlled and monitored the operation of the traffic signals on main roads from Cairns to the Gold Coast. A system for monitoring and controlling Freeway traffic was also developed.
