Engineering management (development, test, OEM integration), software architecture, and customer relationship management for mobile phone applications, working with large telecommunications companies and cell phone manufacturers. Applications included voice applications (VoIP, voice messaging and push-to-talk), data management applications (contact synchronization), and service quality management tools for use by the carrier.• Grew team from 10 to 40, with responsibility for development, QA, and OEM Integration.• Grew product line from one handset product, to multiple handset and server offerings.• One product line spun off as separate VC funded company (Carrier IQ).• Developed handset software embedded in dozens of handset models from multiple OEMs, on multiple carriers. Over 20 million units shipped by the time I left.• Servers deployed both at Carrier, as well as in Core Mobility ASP hosting center.Product lines / technologies:• Embedded VoIP client. Built handset software for Sprint’s ReadyLink “Push-To-Talk” (PTT) VoIP application. Worked closely with other vendors to deliver solution. • Client / server solution for service quality management. Application uses downloaded rule sets to gather RF, CDMA protocol, and high-level application metrics. The metrics are uploaded over-the-air and stored in a data warehouse for analysis and reporting. Co-authored two Patents (7,551,922 and 7,609,650) on this technique. • Client / server voice messaging. Application combines an MMS based voice application with web, email, IVR, and SMS capabilities. Servers are J2EE based, and built for telecom-class reliability and scalability. • Client / server data synchronization solution. The product synchronizes the user’s phone book (or other data) over-the-air between handset and server.
