The Petawawa Research Forest (PRF) is a 100 square kilometer tract on Garrison Petawawa military reserve established in 1917 hosting Canada's first permanent sample plot and hundreds more research sites that archive almost a century of leading edge forest science. The Petawawa Forest Research Station became the Petawawa National Forestry Institute in the early 1980s only to be closed in 1996. The PRF continues to be operated by Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service as an living laboratory for visiting scientists.

The Forestry History Society of Ontario is a voluntary group dedicated to the discovery and archiving of the rich forest heritage we can be proud of in Ontario.

The Canadian Forestry Association, established in 1900, is Canada's oldest conservation organization. For well over a century, CFA's mission was to advocate for better public awareness of the importance of protection and wise use of Canada's forest, water and wildlife resources. The CFA has, in its 115th year, just completed a formal merger with the Canadian Institute of Forestry (est 1908). Core programs such as National Forest week observance, Forest Capital of Canada and Envirothon will continue to be administered by CIF and historical data is archived and accessible yet through www.canadianforestry.com

Management of public and media relations at the Petawawa National Forestry Institute since 1983 promoting leading-edge forest science. Aside from routine but exciting engagement with so many renowned researchers and practitioners, some of the fun highlights included the sailing of a replica squared timber raft with the Tall Ships in Quebec City in 1984 and again in 2008. The delivering of maple trees to Juno Beach, Normandy, France in 1994 for the 50th anniversary of D-Day. I was privileged to be involved in organizing the National Forest Congresses from 1986 through 2006 and the Forest Capital of Canada designations from coast to coast for over 30 years. In 1987, I was on a secondment to a team with the International Union of Forest Research Organizations in Vienna Austria to organize the World Forestry Congress in 1990. Other assignments were with the First Nations Forestry Program and the Canadian Model Forest Network and the National Forest Strategy Coalition. I am now involved with a team to repatriate oak saplings to Vimy Ridge France in 2017 that have been propagated from acorns brought to Canada after WW I and planted in Toronto.
