I first started working as a support worker over 6 years ago for CAMCAN in the south west supporting participants in and around Augusta. I supported participants with Muscular Dystrophy, AOD and psychosocial disabilities for nearly two years. I had the privilege of supporting a participant who went on to become a support worker themselves as they achieved their goal of engaging in open employment.Since then, I have worked as an independent support worker and qualified allied health assistant for 4 years in Perth, supporting participants with legal advocacy, in home support, community access, budgeting, navigating the NDIS Act, respite and budgeting.I’m a humanist, I have a keen interest in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Social Determinants of Health, bio-psychosocial philosophy and empowerment of individuals and communities.I continue to maintain my CPD throughout my journey as a social work student at ECU and as a student member of the AASW whereby I seek my ethical guidance.Thank you for reading,Dave Lockyer
