After serving as a United States merchant based in the Indian Ocean in the early 1990s, I returned to the US and wrote a series of essays about my maritime experiences -- my first published work.I subsequently secured several writing and marketing mandates on the basis of these early essays, moving on to become a featured commentator on National Public Radio's Morning Edition, delivering rhyming editorials on current events on WHYY, the local affiliate.I moved to Seoul, Korea in 1994 to write ad copy and work on print/TVC campaigns for LG AD, the in-house advertising agency for LG Group. Relocating to Hong Kong in 1997, I worked as copy editor for the Asia Private Equity Review, an authoritative monthly alternative investment journal. In October 1999, I was one of a handful of international journalists invited to help launch the English-language Shanghai Daily. I also briefly worked on the launch of a joint-venture newspaper produced by the International Herald Tribune (The New York Times) and the Joonang-Ilbo in Seoul, Korea. As a freelance essayist and commentator for mainstream media in US and Asia-Pacific, I've worked with brands including Radio Free Asia, Interfax, Yonhap News Agency, The Wall Street Journal, Haymarket Media and the Wenxin United Press Group.In addition to work in communications, I have hands-on experience in the field of venture investing, working with a high net-worth family office and private equity houses to expand and diversify portfolios in region. I secured first-round funding for Urbn Hotels, China's first carbon-neutral hotel group.I presently serve as the Hong Kong-based senior editor for PaRR, a policy and regulation title produced by ION Analytics (formerly Mergermarket Media).
