I am a trustee of the Online Memorial and Museum of Prisoners of War https://www.prisonersofwarmuseum.com/My career began as a topographic surveyor with Ordnance Survey Great Britain where I gained valuable experience in independent thought and decision-making based upon a logical and systematic approach to problem solving. This strong technical grounding provided the ideal base from which to extend my creative instincts in a number of sales and marketing roles. Responsibility for delivery led me to gain experience of project management. My role in leading teams of staff have honed my people development and leadership skills. This and my networking and influencing skills led to my appointment in 1999 to the role of Head of Public Affairs at Ordnance Survey. In 2006 I took the opportunity to become Programme Manager at EuroGeographics in order to apply my skills and experience to the pan-European national mapping and cadastral context. A little over a year later I was appointed as Executive Director, a position I filled until late 2015. In this role I helped to establish the Europe Region of the UN's Global Geospatial Information Management programme.I have served on the Board of the Association for Geographic Information and was an active Steering Committee member of the UK Intragovernmental Group for Geographic Information. I was also a member of the British Geological Survey's advisory committee and President of the Global Spatial Data Association. I successfully combine a diplomatic style of leadership, a determination to achieve consensus and a focus on delivering outcomes, to achieve positive change.
