Responsible for the identification, investigation and development of new technologies and product sectors for the company involving everything from building liaisons and relationships with external organisations through to designing and developing prototype implementations. Heavily involved in the personal mobility, transport, automotive and embedded systems spaces with a particular emphasis on connected devices and systems, both wired and wireless.

Lead the Networked Systems research group including the development of wireless location and networked appliance strategies. Developed smartphone functionalities in a project which, unfortunately, we called 'Enhanced Mobile Terminal Functionality'. Developed innovative content distribution strategies with patent protections. Chief Architect for the EU Global System for Telematics (GST) project and created automotive practice including building relationships with various OEMs. Created and became the series editor for IEEE Communications Magazine 'Networked Appliances' series before the term 'Internet of Things' had been invented.

Responsible for technology development within the organisation and acting as the Executive Director of the OSGi. Developed new external relationships and extended the business of Global Inventures into Europe.

Development of the Call Agent for IP Based Telephony and the early stages of a Networked Appliance Stategy. Telcordia delgate to the team that created the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) - Java for mobile phones. Developing relationships between Telcordia and the Venture Capital community and created IP network strategy for a major RBOC (including the concept of differentiated traffic streams - the start of the whole 'Net Neutrality' debate). Troubleshooter for internal projects.

Development and implementation of all aspects of the technical strategy for the business with multiple rounds of Venture Capital funding. Responsibility for budget, recuitment, management and training of all tehnical staff. Development and maintenance of technical relationships at the highest levels with PABX manufacturers across the world (Goldstar, Panasonic, Toshiba, Telrad etc.).

Various roles starting off as a software engineer in the Factored Products group and ending up as a researcher in the Advanced Technology Group.
