I lead Aikido training at the Grand Rapids Aikikai as a representative of Birankai North America. Aikido training involves empty hand techniques, weapons training, zazen, and Iaido practice. I also manage live-in students (Uchideshi), instructor development programs (Kenshusei), and summer long intensive live in programs (Shugyosei). I am the main Youth Aikido teacher. I oversee 3 assistant Youth Aikido teachers.I schedule Aikido Seminars with guest instructors from across the country. I also oversee our members when we travel to Aikido Seminars at other Birankai Dojo.

I worked for 16 years as a Michigan State Police Trooper. In that time I was a Trooper on patrol in the Grand Haven Post, Wayland Post, Muskegon Detachment, and Ionia Post. I worked as an undercover narcotics officer at the West Michigan Enforcement Team for 2 years. I spent 4 years as a Post Community Service Officer. In that time I became a TEAM (Teaching Educating And Mentoring) Instructor and Instructor Trainer. I was certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor a RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) instructor for women's self defense and a RAD (Resisting Abduction Defense) Kids instructor and introduced both programs to the Michigan State Police. I served as the Post Intelligence Officer at the Wayland Post for 3 years and was certified as a State Police Background Investigator. I numerous investigative workshops and graduated from Advanced Narcotics Investigation School and Raid Entry School.

While serving in the Marine Corps I was trained as a Rifleman. My military occupational specialty was as an Aviation Ordnanceman and worked at Air Weapons Training Unit 2 and VMA-231 at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point North Carolina until 1994.
