Hi, I’m a public sector comms person. I manage the external comms for the ICO, the UK’s data protection and freedom of information regulator. That means finding ways to show how interesting and important our work is, whether that’s through media, social media or direct comms. Some days I’m helping develop the brilliant team here, some days I’m looking at how we can reach new audiences, other days I’m responding to media questions and criticism.Comms is pretty much what I’ve always done. I trained as a journalist but then went down the PR path, first at a London agency and then running a police press office. I moved north in 2012, and enjoyed working as a speechwriter for a spell. But my current role is my favourite so far: working with a big team, being creative and working with subjects that are important to people’s lives.
