My 'first career' was as a research biochemist. I moved into health and safety in 1992. I spent seven years as an inspector with the Health and Safety Executive in London and Essex and then in 1999 moved into the private sector. Since then I've had 'hands-on' experience of working in a variety of health and safety roles across a range of industries.
