I always loved working at Baxi, the role, the people, the challenges were and are now what I wanted and needed. When I was approached in May 2021, it was an easy decision... I slotted straight in again as a Consultant and Senior Design Engineer this time, so not only Product Design Engineering, but also an advisor on D2M, expert user for Siemens Solid Edge and UKPLM Key User for Teamcenter v13 software and AW6, and how to apply those skills in everyday working life, as a Design Engineer, in our growing team. Core activity is within the NPD process, all the way from concept, development to mass production and also supporting ECR projects. Again, heavily involved in RP and 3D printing, I helped secure an investment in a new Stratasys F370 and F170, which the business really needed. Supporting the UK and PLM CoE using SE and TC, is rewarding and I never turn down the opportunity to help individuals when my time is requested. I have trained over 40 Teamcenter users and also developed the Solid Edge skills of all the Design Team, from Essentials to Advanced to Surfacing modules. I am a Senior Approver for manufacturing and Assembly drawings and I have also mentored 2 Degree Design Apprentices at Baxi. The workload parameters are tough and demanding, but that's what I thrive on.. So many challenges and interesting projects, every day is different. I am a senior player in a very strong design team and an even stronger R and D team. I started Prodec Services Ltd to concentrate on the Engineering Design to Manufacture processes. My expertise being in Solid Edge and Teamcenter and having sound experience in the Engineering Industry puts me in a unique position. To date I have been involved in a large number of projects covering a wide range of disciplines including CAD administration, data management implementation, file structuring, parametric modelling, advanced design and drafting, bulk translations, customized training and remodelling bundles from other CAD products. Since November 2003, I have completed contracts for the Plastics, Fabrication, Machine, Valve, Defence, Furniture and Automotive sectors and sub-contracted work out. I am also a very active Business Partner with Tritech 3D and 3DPB (part of the Stamford Marsh Group) - one of the largest 3D printing vendors in Europe. I offered a full design to manufacture service from concept to mass production. Below is a list of the main contracts I was involved with since November 2003. This role for me ticked every box apart from the actual Design Engineering aspect. I was involved in new product demonstrations for the latest versions of Solid Edge and Teamcenter, advanced support questions relative to design to manufacture and also training at all levels. But my main role was engaging with the existing customer base and supporting/helping them understand there failures and hence advising and hand holding them through a development process that could include training, software upgrades, customized design to manufacture workflow improvements and rationalizing their licensing and software portfolios. The truth is I loved this role and was good at it, but missed being part of a design team....

I have supported the Engineers' at Weir for over 14 years now and also completed over 25 training courses for more than 50 engineers including Fundamentals, Advanced Assembly, Advanced Part, Surfacing and refresher courses for 2D and sketching. In 2009 Weir transitioned to a PLM driven business with ST3 and Teamcenter. My current position is PLM Consultant taking responsibility for all hardware and software upgrades, training and support for Solid Edge ST7 and TCX9.1.2, for a team of 32 Solid Edge/TC users including 2 sites in India, 1 in China and 2 in North America. All of the overseas sites (regarding TC) I manage and maintain. I have also completed multiple contracts for the Control Valve department, modelling complex Globe Valve bodies using Solid Edge surfacing and generating casting/machined drawings. I joined Baxi because I wanted a design contract that revolved around a product range rather than a single product/component. Baxi had recently moved CAD products from NX to Solid Edge and needed a design engineer and a Solid Edge expert who was also proficient with Teamcenter PLM. My main role was to help design a new boiler platform (NG3) starting with a social housing market (so a compact, cost effective but reliable boiler). I was part of a small team responsible for the design but had to liaise with Production, Quality, Development, Controls, Suppliers and all Manufacturing departments. Most parts were prototyped using onsite resource (manual press shop, foundry, model shop) and Baxi’s 3D printers and a 3rd party bureau. This boiler has now been used to generate a suite of 35+ boilers, all using the NG3 platform. I have been involved in many other smaller projects at Baxi, given CAD/PLM help and support daily and provide Fundamentals, Sheet Metal, Advanced, Surfacing, Harnessing, Xpress Route and bespoke training to the design team at Baxi and within the Group of BDR Thermea.

This contract was site based at Envisage Group Ltd working for ADL designing the new Bus for London. My responsibilities include managing and supporting the team of 6 contract engineers, liaising with the customer and holding regular WebEx and goto meetings and also communicating with suppliers. The majority of my CAD work was to surface model ABS and GRP components using Solid Edge and also to modify existing ABS and GRP surface models created by the customer. The final stage of this contract was a project to help rationalise weight, cost, quantity of parts and assembly operations for the front end steelwork, which was then presented to the Engineering Director at ADL.

Malvern, Worcestershire.

This Design Engineering contract incorporates the design of complex components, including sheet metal, castings, mouldings and machined components for the whole spectrum of instruments. Using Solid Edge and all my expertise/experience, I cover concept designs and prototype manufacture and also production design through to mass production using a wide range of materials. I can be involved in ECN management, project team work or component design, normally within the Manufacturing Department. I have also provided multiple 3D print prototypes for Malvern. Given the nature of the business these prototypes were different materials and some were high temp resistant.. Malvern finally moved onto PLM in 2014 and with my experience, was able to help with testing and configuration, conventions and daily support, The PLM here is Aras.

IAC are maintained by Prodec and have regular, on site, update training.

Bailey Trailers are a leading Trailer design and manufacturer and most of the product is fabricated. I help with consultancy, training and the maintenance of the Solid Edge systems but my primary role is to improve design to manufacture time and quality using sheet metal processes and the tool set within Solid Edge.Sales. I have had good success with sales of all Solid Edge modules. These sales have derived from the excellent customer relationships I have built up over the last 12 years and customers knowing that my attitude towards communication and support are second to none. Together with Cutting Edge Solutions Ltd, I also support my customers on a technical basis.

This position covered a wide range of disciplines. I was asked to act as CAD Administrator for a number of seats of Solid Edge and maintain the hardware. I have also been set tasks regarding parametric designs and CAM research, modelling techniques and workflow improvement training and various design projects. This company draws on most of my Solid Edge and Engineering skills.

The contracts from B & H include collecting large Solid Edge ST2 assembly models with BOP and manufactured components. My job is to create manufacturing drawings to a high standard, including geometric tolerancing and surface finishes, and also assembly drawings with comprehensive parts lists for standard items and manufactured items. All of this work is done at my office.

GBUK - Design and manufacture of refrigeration modules for most supermarkets in the UK. On each contract I was responsible for the design and build of prototype units and modifications to existing designs for Morrisons. The bulk of the work is sheet metal design with some electronics, rendering and assembly design.Lawson Model Makers

I came to GDS when all of their CAD design was being generated, in Solid Works, by an external design house. GDS had a parent company that used Solid Edge. I was then responsible for implementing new and old designs into the Solid Edge system, creating a new drawing number system and liaising with sales, project mangers and various suppliers. Over 90% of the work was carried out at my office with one day per week on Site for meetings. The majority of the design content is Sheet Metal fabrication, machined and moulded plastic components. I was solely responsible for generating manufacturing drawings, large Solid Edge assemblies, maintaining the file structure and the Solid Edge system along with meeting strict deadlines for drawings and Parts Lists.

On a regular basis I support and train the engineers from my office and occasionally on site.

Concurrent Systems Inc is a software reseller and a leading PDM vendor. My expertise was required in proofing between Solid Edge and their PDM solution DDM - Design Data Manager.

I was commissioned by the owner to source, design and manufacture a bespoke design of ceramic mug which fitted the company products and business.

Formally Merloni, General Domestic Appliances, Hotpoint, CREDA, approached me to convert over 50 Solid Works components into Solid Edge. These plastic components had to be within a specific tolerance for dimensional and mass properties. This work was substantial and during the first 2 months of this contract I started to filter out work to sub-contractors.

After selling Solid Edge software here, I was given a contract to convert complex pencil drawings into a range of parametric 3D models and working manufacturing drawings.

This commission included design and manufacture of a new component for the Minton brand. I sourced a supplier to manufacture the component, initially by RP from a new, high tech, modern ceramic based composite.3D Composites and Structural Science

During this 4 month period I was responsible for implementing Solid Edge Insight Connect with Sharepoint (PDM system), training new users to an advanced level and also managing the day to day issues including Solid Edge problems, hardware problems, design problems and workflow improvements. Hawke have 7 seats of Solid Edge and 12 users.

Mercol are a Design and Manufacturing Company who specialize in office furniture. I was responsible for getting Mercols designs from 2D into a parametric 3D system - Solid Edge. I have trained 4 engineers from fundamentals through assembly, surfacing and finally advanced Solid Edge training.

- SOLID Applications LTD, Business - CAD & Technical Support Provider; Job DescriptionMy primary role was to manage over 100 Customer Accounts with regular technical site visits to monitor their progress and to sell additional products and services. The main purpose of this responsibility was to pro-actively develop Customers Accounts by recognizing areas in their design to manufacture process where they could save money and time. My Customer base was the North of England.I was responsible for winning new business with these existing accounts.

This work involved creating feature based, parametric Solid Edge models from 2D data. The 2 parts covered were from a washer/dryer machine and were very complex. This exercise was to prove that Solid Edge was capable of creating the same models as another high-end 3D product. There was a sheet metal component and an injection moulded component. GDA installed 10 seats of Solid Edge after completion of my consultancy

I spent approximately 12 days per month on this project. I was working with the Panel D & M zone of Twyfords. On these panels are mounted various types of sanitary ware and there were a number of different types of sanitary ware and panels for different heights and widths. Twyfords wanted a parametric design system based on master assemblies. From these master assemblies they wished to generate all other variations on the same theme. In turn these masters drove GA's, detail drawings and large parts lists including all fasteners and brackets. On completion of this major project, their design to manufacture time was reduced by 35%. Ongoing training was given to the engineers, basic, advanced and bespoke.

This work involved creating feature based, parametric Solid Edge models, GA's, details and BOM's from 2D imported data sent via a third party.

I was asked to design and detail a new size of mixing machine for a particular type of fluid. The work involved utilizing existing data and designs and complementing their best concepts. I created working GA's, detailed drawings and BOM's. I spent a number of hours on their shop floor and the success of this project resulted in more consultancy for SAL.

This was a 4-week project and my task was to create a working animation of a fixture that held components for car engine. The final animation showed how the fixture plus components assembled, machining details, tool swaps and flybys.

This work involved the design and manufacture, of a new instrument for Malvern, to measure and control the rate of flow through a syringe. I was responsible for design, manufacturing drawings to a high standard and the manufacture of the prototype.

Job Description This position involved creating detailed 3D concept designs in Solid Designer (v6.0), 2D manufacturing drawings and storing all information into Work Manager Database (v4.04) - a Product Data Management (PDM) solution. I was responsible for managing IT related problems including setting up new accounts for our NT intra-network and installing and upgrading new software/printers/plotters. I was also responsible for the training of staff on NT, Lotus Notes/SmartSuite, maintenance of all hardware and controlling virus checks on all incoming emails. I was one of only two Engineers (out of 30) to have access to the modelling package and the PDM solution. I had much responsibility, which also included maintaining Drawing Office procedures. Initially I was employed on a short-term basis fabricating, welding and operating machinery on the shop floor. This was followed by a two-year period in the Drawing Office where I gained extensive experience in using drawing board techniques, AutoCAD Releases 11, 12, 13, 14 and Me10 (v8.70). I then moved on into the Sales Department where I produced specialized kiln designs for both the domestic and international markets and was involved integrally with the sales process.
