Although my interest in IT stems from my school days I first became interested in databases while working for a B2B direct mail company. The idea that prospect/suspect/customer behaviour could be predicted and influenced through data was and remains an enduring fascination.Working for McCann-Erikson and seeing those ideas applied to a wide range of B2C and B2B clients nutured this interest but also lead towards the DBA path as database systems at that time simply were not powerful enough to allow the required analysis without significant technical involvement.Moving on to Kudos-IDD introduced the concept that data is only useful if it can be presented in context as information. This required the skills necessary to program and utilise web content management systems.Work with the Tote and Moneysupermarket have introduced me to the rigours of high transaction loads and 24/7 support capabilities and also the design disciplines to ensure efficient data flow.From all this I have gained extensive SQL DBA experience from version 6.5 through to 2008R2 and am a regular author on SqlServerCentral and also the simple-talk website http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Authors/Articles/David_Poole/3226/https://www.simple-talk.com/author/david-poole/I am also active in the wide SQL Server community.Specialties: Big Data, Data Architect and SQL Server DBA, performance tuning and monitoring, problem diagnosis, data modeling and reverse engineering database solutions.
