David L. Rader, M.D. is a general surgeon, established in 1985, in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Rader has over 41 years of clinical experience in the field of general surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Venous and Lymphatic Society. He did his surgical training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN before establishing a private practice at Ascension St. Vincent's Birmingham. He was a pioneer in the laparoscopic surgery revolution of the 1990’s performing the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Alabama in 1989. He has trained numerous surgeons in laparoscopic techniques and lectured extensively, both domestic and abroad. In 1990, he was invited to teach laparoscopic surgery in Moscow at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. He retired from general surgery in 2021. Since 2019, Dr. Rader has served as Medical Director for Aveanna Medical House Call (formerly Premier Medical House Call) serving as collaborating physician for multiple geriatric midlevel practitioners who provide on-site care to residents of retirement communities. He also serves as Medical Director for multiple assisted living and memory care facilities in the central Alabama region.
