I started my career in the Defence industry at Fuchs Electronics as a production foreman at 22 in 1982. Other positions I held in my 28 years there were sub-contracts manager, industrialisation manager, toolroom manager, programme manager and marketing manager. I was for many years the sole company representative at defence exhibitions such as IDEX, Eurosatory, DSEI, DSA, etc.During this time I developed several opportunities where I was responsible for sales and technology transfers to clients. Fuchs Electronics is probably the single largest designer developer and manufacturer of electronic fuzes outside of the USA and presently exports worldwide.The fuzing environment provided me with extensive exposure to weapons systems, both NATO and non-NATO types.I moved to RDM in 2010 and became part of the New Business Development and Sales Team.My knowledge base has expanded significantly where I am now quite knowledgeable on most ammunition types. I was responsible for developing new markets for the Plant Engineering capabilities within RDM and assisted to provide manufacturing solutions from Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) for localisation of RDM products in Client's countries.I was responsible for several large proposals including combat management suites for warships, ammunition manufacturing plants, chemical plants as well as providing proposals for ammunition suites.I am knowledgeable in most processes involved in ammunition manufacturing, from providing equipment solutions for chemical processes for energetic materials (NG, NC and NQ), single, double and triple base propellants) through to providing solutions for ammunition assembly and lot acceptance testing of finished products.I left RDM at the end of May 2020 as part of a downsizing exercise to start early retirement but am looking for other opportunities.I am currently consulting on a retainer basis to develop new business for certain customers.I have also act as an independent observer on behalf of a European company requiring representation to attend a Lot Acceptance Test (LAT) for South African produced ammunition at Alkantpan Test Range. My extensive knowledge of weapon systems and associated ammunition and its manufacturing cycle enabled me to establish conformity to specification both in the production environment and in the field.In March 2021 I started a consulting business, Vegor Consulting (Pty) Ltd, and by using my contacts I am able to provide various services to industry.
