I ran the pre and post Planning Dept for Carillion Alawi LLC, their company for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with an annual turnover in excess of £1 billion. The Dept was split over several countries and contained approximately 20no European, Middle Eastern or Indian planners at various grades.Worked on multiple projects including a Convention Centre, car parks and services infrastructure, roads and bridges, tenders, hospitals in various locations, a staff and operations complex in the desert for BP/Jacob's, Luxury Hotels etc.

I was responsible for all Project Controls and Project Planning aspects of this $2 billion+ project. The role incorporated overall strategic development control of planning and procurement along with progress monitoring and reporting. Risk management, document management and internal procedures development were encompassed within the role.With a lot of practical experience as a Planning Manager for Main Contractors on major projects, I offered construction advice from the feasibility stage through to project completion on aspects including buildability, value engineering, alternative procurement options, health & safety, construction technology and alternatives, construction methodology and sequencing. Contract administration and the management of contractors claims to achieve mutually acceptable settlements along with the preparation and / or assessment of entitlement claims were part of my role. Another key element was developing the construction logistics plans at both a strategic and a project level to effectively manage the interface between completed sectors of the development and the ongoing construction activities.I was responsible for Health, Safety and Environmental control whilst managing the HSE Team, developing an HSE Culture within the organisation and managing all aspects of HSE within the development.

Muscat, Oman

I was seconded to Oman. Initially I worked on a 700 bed (3 hotels, Spa and associated infrastructure) resort called Barr Al Jissah, which is still operated by the Shangri La Group. I was also involved with the Muscat City Centre Expansion which involved adding two new 'shopping wings' and a multi-storey car park whilst keeping the existing mall operational throughout the Works. After completing this work, we successfully negotiated another (new-build) mall with the same Client.
