The creative side of software development gets me out of bed in the morning. A hobbyist programmer since I was 13 and a professional for over 20 years, I've followed Microsoft from Access macros to Azure and still enjoy the process of solving problems with computers.Software does, of course, have a "human side" and my work has involved directly supporting and gathering software requirements from all types of software users, be that the accounting comptroller, director of operations, mid-level managers, production employees or the company president. My career has been primarily devoted to independent development of MIS solutions for managers, utilities for programmers and line-of-business applications for production departments. More recently I've had the opportunity to work on collaborative teams building large-scale apps.I have created programs to tabulate data, forecast buyer satisfaction, track survey mailings and returns, report financials, take surveys, send mass e-mailings, emulate clock-punching as well as integrate disparate systems. I have written programming tutorials, software user documentation, marketing text and company-wide emails regarding the release of software updates."On my own time" programming projects include:● An investigation of Azure Durable FunctionsA program that consumed JSON from www.swapi.com (a public API of Star Wars data!) then used OPENJSON to immediately create and populate a set of SQL tables.● Two separate versions of a time-tracking system1) A Next.js app with a .NET 7 minimal API backend involving SSL certificates, web workers, Auth0 and Material UI.2) A jQuery frontend calling a ASP.NET Core Web API connected to an Azure SQL database deployed via continuous integration to a personal Azure account. This involved AJAX calls, drag-and-drop functionality, JavaScript timers and Bootstrap 4 formatting.● A simulated Q&A site with .NET Core web API backend consumed by a React frontend using Emotion for styling and TypeScript (based on the book "ASP.NET Core 3 and React" by Carl Rippon).
