As The Walt Disney Company unified its streaming efforts, I joined the Disney Streaming organization. Responsibilities still focused on ensuring streaming quality while monitoring and controlling CDN traffic. Technologies focused on Scala and functional programming.

Building tools to optimize and monitor the delivery of video using multiple CDNs.

Responsible for backend system design, development, and production quality. Projects included integrating third-party fleet tracking system into existing fleet management systems. This included orchestrating requests and responses from two disparate systems, allowing fleets of vehicles to be managed from either system. Also spearheaded a migration of homegrown identity management into an industry best practice provider, Auth0. Demonstrated ability to work 100% remotely. Took the opportunity to work on a new product from initial design through beta all the way to customer release. This product supports other public clouds with white labeled CDN, specifically focusing on the challenges of TLS and certificate management. Demonstrated ability to work 100% remotely. Additional technologies include extensive use of Akamai’s proprietary flavor of Cassandra NoSQL data store, network deployment mechanisms, interfacing with our Key Management Infrastructure for secure protocol transport as well as content-level encryption of secrets.Continued responsibility on improving, enhancing, and supporting three video transcoding APIs in the ever-changing field of streaming video, supporting the US broadcast industry.

In addition to the responsibilities detailed below, became responsible for managing another developer, also a remote worker. While in this position, took the lead role in both designing and implementing a major new version of the on-demand video transcoding API that resulted in more scale and reliability, including design and implementation of new APIs within the transcoding system. New functionality included support for creating and retrieving video clip extractions from a live video feed, as well as to configure and retrieve configurations of a live video transcoding system. This included interfacing with a NoSQL data store, gathering information from other internal products and APIs, and pushing data across a massive distributed system in an asynchronous reliable manner. Responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting REST API allowing customers a programmable interface into a massively distributed on-demand video transcoding system. This included interfacing with a NoSQL data store as well as gathering information from other internal products and APIs. Demonstrated ability to work 100% remotely. Manager of a team of developers designing and creating commercial voice-of-customer analytics software. Responsible for product architecture decisions as well as day to day development. Also responsible for creating and maintaining source control repository and product installers for commercial software. Oversaw two major releases with several point releases in between. Personally implemented continuous integration builds with automatic deployment to a series of test servers, ensuring latest builds are available for testing. Developed bullet-proof services using multithreading architecture to run on a 24/7 basis. Supported the start-up by travelling to trade shows and speaking to potential customers and partners about functionality and technology. Provided direction and guidance to the development team as well as customer support technicians in regards to product support and enhancement.
