Dod Carbon Free Energy And Installation Resilience Senior Project Manager

Virginia, United States

A proven leader in the development of renewable energy projects for government clients, I have been responsible for the design and implementation of a range of renewable energy installations. These projects have included wind farms, solar farms, and nuclear generation.

My experience includes developing a scalable process for the development of renewable energy projects that can be implemented across multiple sites. This includes establishing baseline matrices for grid resilience projects in support of carbon-free electricity goals, as directed by federal, DoD, and Army regulation and guidance.

In addition to my work on renewable energy projects, I have also been responsible for managing a portfolio of large-scale energy resilience projects using multiple acquisition authorities (e.g., PPA, lease). This has included creating reports and briefs for Army senior leadership on project updates with information synthesized for key decision briefs and procurement actions.

Role listed

Rosamond, California

My job was to provide oversight, motivation, and leadership to a cohesive team responsible for all aspects of the operation and maintenance for 126 1.5MW GE 1.5 ESS wind turbines and associated infrastructure on 4,950 acres of land in Rosamond, California.

We actively planned and carried out all periodic and corrective actions to ensure the highest possible capacity factor, site-wide. Additional requirements included the oversight and conduct of all site-wide training and qualification requirements, task delegation, project management, budgeting, landowner relations, environmental health and safety and OSHA compliance, growth planning, and the identification and forecasting of potential future problems as well as the development of courses of action to prevent them from taking place.

I also had the privilege of establishing a relationship with the American Clean Energy Association (then AWEA). I was able to make a solid, measurable impact on the wind energy business by explaining to members of Congress from both sides of the aisle, including (then House Majority Leader) Congressman McCarthy and (then Senator) Vice President Harris, the importance of wind power to their constituents and to the nation.

Naval Academy Information Program Blue and Gold Officer for the Tehachapi, Lancaster, Mojave, Rosamond, and Palmdale areas of California's 23rd and 25th Congressional Districts. Previously, represented Vacaville, Rio Vista, Winters, and Dixon in the 3rd Congressional District.

As a Blue and Gold Officer, my job was to interface with all interested potential midshipmen, visiting schools and organizations, conducting admissions interviews as well as attend college fairs and academy nights to talk about two of my favorite subjects: the United States Naval Academy and a life of service to our nation.

Fairfield, California

Here, we were responsible for the adoption and modification of the county's Civil Service Rules, the creation and modification of class specifications, and the hearing of appeals resulting from disciplinary actions or allegations of discrimination. Additionally, we took part in employer-employee relations concerning the formation or modification of bargaining units and representation elections. I learned an immense amount while serving as a commissioner, particularly on topics I would have never studied otherwise. Most importantly, I had the direct opportunity to improve the lives of multiple county employees and bargaining units, particularly in a budget-constrained fiscal environment.

2012 - 2014 ~1 yr 2 mos

Role listed

Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic

Norfolk, Virginia

Provided personal oversight for the timely completion of tasking both within the staff as well as those from senior staffs, congress, and the Secretary of the Navy.

The level of on-time completion went from around 60% to 100%. I represented the command and interfaced with senior officers and staff members from multiple commands from Norfolk to Washington. Not only did I learn how to achieve on-time completion, but I also ensured the tasks were completed at the level of perfection expected by the admiral.

Further, serving as assistant flag secretary, I provided oversight in the day-to-day activities of the admiral's office and administration. Due to a recent reorganization that nearly doubled the size of the command, I saw the need to rewrite the command's outdated extensive standard operations manual - and got it done. This was the first revision in fifteen years, and it entailed a massive effort not just on my part but from representatives from every major command component.

Role listed

Uss Cole (Ddg 67)

Norfolk, Virginia

In this role, I was responsible for the Sailors and equipment that did everything from hunt submarines to the care and firing of all the guns on the ship to the protection of the ship from terrorist attacks. It was a many-hatted job and provided daily challenges from many different directions.

Further, midway through my time in this job, they decided to give me the responsibility of training all the officers on the ship in everything from their basic qualifications through our routine training as mariners. That came hand in hand with developing and distributing all of the lists of responsibility and employment (watch bills) for every time we took the ship to sea.

After almost two years as the weapons officer, I became the combat systems officer, in charge of all of the radars and other electronics on the ship, as well as the simulated training scenarios used to train and maintain professional proficiency across the ship. During this period, we unexpectedly lost our executive officer (second in command), and I was tapped to take his place - a privilege and professional challenge.

I left Cole with a whole new appreciation for and professional skillset in managing large groups of people as well as equipment, budgets, and material. Further, I was able to observe first-hand the leadership styles and points of those in command - a vital perspective and learning experience.

Have you ever had a job where you would go to bed at night, looking forward to waking up the next morning - so that you could go back to work? I have. I sincerely hope everyone has the opportunity to have a job that not only challenges them but changes their life in the way serving at the Naval Academy did for me.

Though I had some excellent opportunities to work in high-level and high-visibility positions and have an unparalleled educational experience, my greatest privilege was to mentor countless future officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. As a leadership instructor, I had the opportunity to formally teach two classes the basics and building blocks of how to be a good leader. In the summer, I provided leadership, oversight, and guidance to my staff as a Plebe Summer battalion officer, as we changed 600 young people from civilians to midshipmen.

Most importantly, during the academic year, I was able to daily mentor and guide the ~150 midshipmen of my company. Over the last ten years, these men and women have led thousands of others at sea, ashore, in combat and peace, and have grown to become exceptional leaders and mentors, parents, and citizens in their own right. There is no greater honor than to have had a small part in whom they have become.
