Mechanical Engineer with 40 years’ experience which commenced with formal technician training in the Royal Navy and concluded with a role as an Emergency Response Specialist at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE).I have been accredited since 1997 as an Emergency Manager for AWE, working as a lead member of AWEs Emergency Response 24/7roster function.I progressed other duties while working as a volunteer in the ER role which were based initially on leading a team of 140 staff to maintain all M&E utilities and equipment. This ranged from police vehicle maintenance to care of highly complex Nuclear containment, conditioning and security systems to meet MoD and Office of Nuclear Regulation (ONR) Licence conditionsAfter a period of working on a major Site Development Team which resulted in the award of a multi-billion pound investment in the sites, I then moved to work as a full time member of AWE’s ER function as an Emergency Response Specialist.This involved training all members of the ER team in Command and Control capability. I developed a business case which has been approved for automation of the ER process to include the marriage of robust, industry standard software with smart screens, GIS and GPS with in-built pre-determined Standard Operating Procedures for ER.
