Recruited in 2008 with a remit to re-create the Materials Engineering section and now migrated to a 20 hr a week part-time role. Fully committed to this part-time working role..I now work in the POWER division concentrating in the areas I really find interesting.I have responsibility to:-- represent the company in material and process issues to our customers- maintain internal material and process standard documents- be aware of novel materials, new manufacturing techniques and their applicability to site processes- I am the REACH Focal for our UK Aviation business I am involved in investigations into the viability of alternate substances such as a replacement of hexavalent chrome. This allows me to maintain a wide range of contacts within the general Aviation industry through representing GE in UK and EU trade associations o ADS Hazmat, o ASD RIWG, lead for substance intelligence sub-groupI previously had experience of Project/Technical Management including initialcustomer interface through design, development, commercialisation and industrialisation. Ialso have experience of Lean Manufacturing, including continuous improvement andrationalisation (from six European sites into a single Italian site). Delivery of new products,on time and within budget, was a key factor in my experience.

Technical Manager

Following the Management Buy Out, I was invited to take responsibility for transferring allequipment, process routes and materials into the new facility in Italy. This project exceeded£4 million. This completed, my responsibilities become threefold;-Firstly Project Manager for all new automotive brush products (from inception toindustrialisation) and including responsibility for raw material selection, price negotiation,budget planning and forecasting and routing.-Secondly Lean Manufacturing Engineer, incorporating Continuous Improvement and sixsigma initiatives for existing primary material manufacture.-Thirdly, responsibility for technical liaison to all our UK accounts including Ford who usedour EMI suppressors in their high end vehicles. The accounts totalled approximately £1million p.a.This role built upon my experience within Morgan Crucible, described below.

Morgan CrucibleManufacturer of carbon brush products and commutators.; Auto/Consumer BusinessI was promoted to this position in 1998 taking project management responsibility for developing and fully industrialising new brush materials for use in electric motors in both theAutomotive and Consumer market places. The company used an APQP Safe Launch system which I co-ordinated. Mydepartment was also responsible for process improvement initiatives, where Lean Enterprisemethodology ( six sigma, VSM, etc) and Poka Yoke techniques were in constantly used, andfor technically based customer quality issues (8D). Projects were run concurrently andrequired an ability to negotiate, both internally and externally, to meet strict timescales withspecific financial goals. I had full responsibility of purchasing and logistics, handing overupon successful industrialisation of the project. * Between 1999 and 2002 I took project management responsibility for the relocation of two sister plants into Swansea. * In 2002 I gained additional responsibility for technical applications within theautomotive market sector. During 2003 I oversaw the capture of over £600,000 ofnew business contracts with Siemens, Johnson and Bosch.While at Morgan, I consolidated my ability to problem solve in a process environment gaining significant experience in SPC and six sigma systems and I am proficient working under TS16949.I have achieved a wide technical background including a thorough knowledge of:o adhesive chemistry and interfacial surface technologyo tribology (lubrication)o compaction/extrusion process technologieso experimental design and statistical analysiso internal and external auditing (under the QS9000 program)Throughout my time at Morgan I travelled extensively, liaising with our development centres and customers in US and S.E Asia (China and Korea) and established close links with a number of key customer design centres in Europe. workshops and seminars).
