I was formerly the Director of Major Gifts and Community Outreach at St. Vincent de Paul for a little over two years (2012-2014) involved in cultivating gifts from major donors, foundations and corporations and helping to start a planned giving program. I was also very active in connecting with other non profits and the business sector to raise awareness of our programs and seek collaborative relationships.St. Vincent de Paul serves everybody regardless of race, ethnicity, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or political affiliation. Over 80% of those served are not Catholic. As an agency, they are motivated by a mission to serve and work with the poor. They have a very diverse work force and are independent and not formerly affiliated with he Catholic Church. .

I worked as a major gifts officer cultivating major gifts primarily from individuals and raised substantial funds of over $2.5 million dollars during some of the hardest years of the Great Recession.In this capacity, I worked with individuals having significant wealth as well as various family foundations. I also worked on event planning for the annual major fundraiser that typically raised $450,000 to $500,000.

I worked in civil litigation in several areas of law including employment, business and corporate, construction, contract, personal injury, real estate and complex civil litigation. In the last ten years of my legal practice, I represented an expecially diverse client base with over 50% of my clients being women and/or individuals of color and primarily representing persons with limited income as well as representing several small businesses. Over my 25 years of fulltime law practice I was an equity partner in five different law firms and an escrow business and learned how to manage HR issues and run a business.This last law firm of MGS dissolved in May, 2005 when I decided to leave the full time practice of law to devote myself to using my talents/energy to work in water projects in the developing world. I worked with Marla Smith-Nilson, Founder, in helping to launch Water 1st, a Seattle based non profit in May, 2005. I worked to help raise initial funding to develop water projects in Ethiopia, India, Bangladesh and Honduras and left in December, 2005 to pursue other opportunities. See www.water1st.org. I decided in spring, 2006 to become engaged in economic development. land ownership and more water projects in Central America by becoming employed at Agros International fulltime. Over the past 20 years, I have also pursued fundraising and helped to coordinate water projects in Africa and Central America through University District Rotary Club. I left Agros in June, 2012 to work at St. Vincent de Paul because I wanted to work locally with families in crisis and/or poverty and see if I could help raise funding and find ways to collaborate with the business and non profit sector in delivery of human and social services.
