About Dave Barthmuss

I love to tell stories. And after many years spent working as a corporate communicator, I’ve had the chance to tell a lot of stories about cars, their owners, the innovations driving the auto industry, and even a few things about this PR life of mine.I now serve as an independent PR consultant and senior counsel for clients and agencies, crafting strategic communications programs to reach key stakeholders and deliver a company’s message in a variety of settings. I enjoy building the kinds of engaging bridges that have turned the most determined of detractors into proactive third-party advocates –- a subtle art I call “Advotocracy,” the act of leading through advocacy.Prior to entering the world of the independents, I served as Sr. Director of Corporate Communications, Talent and Brand Engagement at Visteon Corp., a global technology company supporting the mobility industry's electric, connected and autonomous evolution. Lessons learned in my role as PR Director at Karma Automotive, the Southern California-based high-tech mobility incubator and creator of luxury electric vehicles, really helped me prepare to support the transformation underway at Visteon. As GM’s top communicator in its Los Angeles-based Western Region, I was tasked with many communications functions including product marketing, issues management and public policy for all 24 states west of the Mississippi. I also served as a key spokesperson for the company conducting numerous interviews and participated in several public speaking events related to electric vehicles, public relations and communication best practices, and other automotive-related business topics. The rest of the story is all laid out here on LinkedIn so please read on and knock on my door so we can talk more.
