Dave assembled and chaired the Phillips 66 External Advisory Board, advising the company on its portfolio of R&D programs with a focus on energy transition. Important considerations are emerging technology, socio-economic issues, and regulatory trends. Working with a team of business and government leaders, Dave provides the Dean of Engineering with an external perspective on the requirements on engineers of the 21st century working world. Dave was proud to play a key role in defining the structure and goals of the successful new Jacobs Institute for Design.

After leaving a long and rewarding career at IDEO, in parallel with the creation of Mach49, Dave ran View Street Ventures and worked a variety of clients including NASA, Google, SRI, and Johns Hopkins. He invested as an engaged and successful angel investor, sat on Boards of Directors and advisory boards, and maintained his teaching schedule at Stanford and UC Berkeley. As Mach49 began its rapid growth in 2018, Dave transitioned out of these roles into a rewarding full-time position at Mach49.

Working with the Advanced Technology and Systems Division, Dave is helped SRI to take on new challenges and expand its portfolio of research activities.

Dave worked with bebop's CEO, Diane Greene, to implement methods and tools of human-centered design at a fast-moving startup that was acquired by Google for $380M. Dave's work supported Google's rollout of Google Hire, to support end-to-end management of the hiring process.

Dave served as a member of the five-person Board of Directors for Novasentis, a haptic technology startup. Novasentis was sold to Kemet Electronics.

Dave Blakely spent many years as Director of Technology Strategy based in IDEO's Palo Alto office. He helped his clients use technologies to advance their business agendas and to provide optimum experiences for their customers. Prior to his Director Position, Dave designed, built and launched IDEO Smart Products, a successful division of IDEO focused exclusively on eletromechanical products with embedded controllers. In addtion to creating new products and services for a global client base, Dave also advised executives at a number of different technology companies, conducted innovation workshops. Dave was often in demand as a keynote speaker to academic and business groups.
