Under contract with CN-Tec and working with a geographically diverse team consisting of dozens of software development engineers and managers, was responsible for project managing the migration of software engineering tools and workflows of the 200-strong software development environment at Ericsson's Boulder facility to a regional datacenter. Facilitated software tool documentation, and prepared biweekly project summaries for global project management team.

Responsible for IT strategic planning, personnel (8) and contract management, and management of IT budget (~$2M/yr). Broadened IT’s role within the organization and maintained key customer satisfaction ratings while reducing staff costs by 17%. Achieved "Very Strong" ratings for voice/data network architecture and uptime per external assessment August 2009. Spearheaded implementation of Level3 fiber loop installation, resulting in substantially higher bandwidth at lower recurring cost. Achieved significant cost savings via outsourcing of e-mail antivirus/malware processing to SaaS provider. Championed efforts to establish company on IPv6 Internet, providing strategic alignment with customers. Championed efforts to deploy 802.1x NAC for wired locations, providing a more open computing environment while ensuring port-level network security. Led project to deploy Avaya 8710 VoIP system using MS Exchange as voicemail store, reducing cabling costs and delivering a unified messaging platform. Authored numerous RFPs/SOWs for contract services including structured cabling, wireless ISP eval, penetration testing, and IT operations assessment. Coordinated all IT infrastructure design and migration to new 80,000ft2 facility under extreme timeline. Developed an IT Project Methodology focusing on implementation readiness and security principles of availability, integrity, and confidentiality. Developed vital IT standards, processes and policies including an IT disaster plan, password management, information security policy, security incident response, ethics policy, on-call policy, severe weather closure, and comprehensive powerup/powerdown processes. Designed/maintained Cisco L2-switched 10/100/1000 LANs, Cisco 802.11a,b/g WLANs, dual-ISP BGP-enabled Internet infrastructure, redundant DS3 microwave links connecting two CableLabs facilities, Cisco PIX/ASA firewalls and VPN3000 concentrators, and a distributed sniffer system.

Provided technical direction and consulting for various Internet/extranet electronic commerce projects, including ANSI X.12 EDI, web-based, and proprietary communications on HP/UX, SCO, and Windows-based systems. Designed, deployed, and managed a corporate Internet firewall environment consisting of a Cisco border/screening router, Secure Computing Corporation “Sidewinder” firewall, web proxy and LDAP server, Trend Micro VirusWall server, and WUFTP server. Assisted in development and fast deployment of international frame-relay network: configured Cisco routers, switches, HP smart hubs, wireless access points, and other equipment. Developed Unix shell and perl tools for integration with HP/Openview to monitor key network services and gather web-accessible WAN utilization data. Developed and implemented a corporate-wide Network General Distributed Sniffer Server system.

Provided network technical direction for all LAN/WAN application systems projects. Authored various software tools in perl, csh, ksh, and C for monitoring and troubleshooting LAN/WAN data communications. Lead engineer responsible for specifying, deploying, and configuring Cisco routers and Ethernet switches. Responsible for developing a 5-year strategic network engineering plan. Developed software to automate access to cellular activation systems.

What a phenomenal job to jumpstart my career... managed all lab operations, including maintenance of cryogenic magnetometers and other specialized equipment at the Scripps Paleomagnetics Lab Facility. Coded C and FORTRAN interfaces to various lab instruments and developed an integrated suite of data collection and reduction applications. Engineered and prepared RFP documentation for a 5-building Cat5 UTP and multimode fiber optic (to desktop) voice/data network including evaluation and specification of all inside/outside cable plant components. Configured and maintained Cisco routers and various network devices. Engineered, installed, and maintained a 5-building Macintosh network; upon completion, did similar 50-node project for Scripps’ Geological Research Division and configured and maintained multiple Appletalk/IP (Shiva FastPath) routers, Farallon StarControllers, Shiva NetSerials, NetBridges, and LanRovers. For these networks, coordinated Macintosh backups, performed OS and antivirus software updates, and configured and maintained email servers and SMTP gateways. Developed and coordinated Localtalk to Ethertalk migration plans. Supervised one Computer Resource Specialist in network and IT desktop support. Travelled extensively doing paleomagnetics fieldwork, and co-authored three papers on paleomagnetics.
