As an intern for the Digital Harrisburg Initiative I collected physical census records and transferred them onto an online database through a multi-step process. The physical tax records would be photographed and downloaded into a simple computer file (the physical copies were not allowed to be removed from the state archives). Then I would edit those photographs in order to make them legible; when completed I read through multiple photographs and manually transferred the data on Microsoft Excel spread sheets. These spread sheets were then transferred onto Microsoft's database program, Microsoft Access. The database was then proofread for errors and placed online.
