"Always look for the interfaces because that's where all the interesting stuff happens."That advice from my thesis advisor has since guided my career as a systems engineer, data scientist, computational analyst, and technical project manager in multiple technologies, organizations, and industries. It has also drawn me into teaching, as the most interesting interface of all is the one between people's brains.Interfaces, both organizational and technical, both deliberate and accidental, are abundant in extended system efforts. Unrecognized and unattended the disorder they create can stymie success. But with the proper attention and systemic treatment they can also represent significant opportunity. With my focus and experience I can uncover these linchpins and craft effective and proactive strategies to exploit them.My years at HP have been devoted to extending the reach of inkjet printing technology, the resulting products functioning as part of the "Internet of Things" long before it was considered a thing, and ranging in scale from the desktop devices in myriad homes and offices to most recently the multi-ton, multi-million dollar behemoths serving industry.Prior to HP I held R&D technical and management positions in the nuclear power, alternative energy, aerospace, and automotive fields. I earned BS and MS degrees from MIT in nuclear and mechanical engineering, later supplemented by a MS computer science degree.Outside my working career, I am an avid fitness enthusiast and outdoors person. My particular love is long-distance bicycle touring, and I aspire someday to complete the Trans-America route.
