As infrastructure technical lead to a small cross-functional team, whose remit was to re-platform and migrate GSK’s core middleware service, I owned the following work products:- infrastructure solution design- application integration specifications- platform monitoring and application performance management architecture- platform specific inputs into SOA and system lifecycle management solutions- product selections during proof-of-technology and proof-of-concept phases- mentoring and product demosSpecifically, I managed the introduction of the following technologies and capabilities into GSK:- advanced infrastructure virtualization (bringing software licensing costs into budget)- lightweight container technology, associated image templates, shared testing resources and scalable client environments (automating system integration testing and reducing manual errors)- Active Memory Sharing (enabling fully automated capacity management)- server lifecycle management software (reducing maintenance windows and configuration drift)Legacy monitoring was limited in both capability and scope. By implementing monitoring across the entire platform, I was able to build additional value into the platform by designing an application performance management solution that:- aggregated and intelligently reported against said data, allowing service management to visualise service metrics and reduce incident and ticket numbers- allowed technicians to assess system health from different viewpoints, analyse patterns of behaviour through predictive analytics, and remediate issues pro-actively

In recognition of LPAR builds failing to meet perceived delivery timescales, the service delivery function moved to a pre-provisioning model. As provisioning technical lead I:- managed the conversion of all automation code, and processes, from engineering to production- ensured our team of 15 onshore/offshore specialists delivered technically consistent builds- co-ordinated the builds of 150+ POWER frames, 3000+ AIX LPARs and 200+ PowerHA clustersServer capacity was under-utilised and poorly optimised for non-production environments. To meet £23m in cost-savings, reduce licensing costs, and enable more flexibility in workload placement, I delivered the following two work items:- engineered and implemented a server hardware pattern that enabled UAT and production to be segregated within the same frame, allowing LPAR densities to double- planned all technical elements for a server optimisation programme, resulting in over 250 CPU's worth of capacity being made available for future workloadsIn a dual effort to maintain SLAs and drive continuous improvement activities, I acted as technical design authority for IT service delivery and provided:- key consultancy and governance around project design workshops, engineering refreshes, standards improvements, quality assurance reviews and service-affecting incidents- consistency, from design through provisioning to operational support, for all builds- appropriate levels of communication between technicians and management
