I am a Clean Water Advocate and Activist. I accidentally stumbled on the marine debris issue in Biscayne Bay while kayaking in 2008 and have dedicated my time, skills, and energy to addressing the root causes of aquatic trash. GRASSROOTS ACTIONOne weekend in 2014, Dave and his wife Dara registered a domain and built a prototype website called VolunteerCleanup.Org, as a way to connect people leading cleanups with volunteers. We soon became an official 501c3, and are most proud that we have helped build a community of good humans taking charge in their own communities.As of January 2023, we have helped facilitate over 3,000 cleanups with 30,000 volunteers who have removed over 600,000 pounds from neighborhoods, shorelines, and waterways. We recognize that we cannot clean our way out of this problem, but know that cleanups provide an eye-opening experience that starts a conversation on how individuals, businesses, and government can all be part of the solution. You can be part of the solution by reducing single-use plastics in your personal and business life, sharing what you've learned with others in your influence, and of course, participating in solo or group cleanups.BUSINESS ENGAGEMENTDave Seeks to engage businesses to eliminate single-use plastics within their offerings and operations. We love doing Corporate Days of Service, as it presents a fantastic team-building opportunity while starting a conversation about the impact of their businesses and how they can be part of the solution. We have numerous examples of businesses that have eliminated significant amounts of single-use plastics and realized positive revenue benefits because of their changes.POLITICAL ADVOCACYSince 2012, I have been working collaboratively with elected officials and city staff around Miami-Dade County and at the State to reduce the input of debris entering our waterways. Dave currently sits on a number of boards, including the Miami-Dade County Biscayne Bay Watershed Advisory Board, Miami Beach Marine & Waterfront Protection Authority (vice-chair), Biscayne Bay Marine Health Coalition (steering committee), and formerly the City of Miami Beach Sustainability Committee (chair for 6 years). PRIOR PROFESSIONAL: I spent 27 years leading a successful sales team that helped mid-sized and enterprise customers develop secure networks and protect their data to enable their businesses to grow without compromises. From 2006-2021, I led and inspired an exceptional sales team to achieve their highest potential and help their customers achieve their security goals.
