Our Just Future (formerly Human Solutions) helps low-income and homeless families and individuals gain self-sufficiency by providing emergency shelter, affordable housing, family support services, job readiness training and economic development opportunities. I currently serve as the Secretary on the board of directors. Prior to December 2020, I served as a volunteer on the finance committee, which provides oversight for financial management and policies. Smarsh helps financial services organizations manage risks related to electronic communications, offering capture and archive solutions. Smarsh solutions are used by over 6500 customers, including banks, broker-dealers, investment advisers, hedge funds, private equity firms, exchanges, and insurers. As the CISO, I was accountable for the effectiveness of our company-wide information security program.

At The Standard, I led the Information Security team. The team works closely with the business and within IT to manage security risks. The program areas I was responsible for included (a) a Security Operations Center focused on threat hunting and incident response, (b) a risk management team responsible for governance, ongoing risk assessment, evaluation of appropriate security controls, security awareness, project and product development consultation, and reporting, and (c) a compliance team responsible for internal and external assurance activities. I worked closely with partners in the privacy, third-party risk, business continuity, application security, architecture, engineering, and operations areas.

At Simple, I had responsibility for our risk management program; If it was a material risk for our business, I was responsible for it. The team I led included specialists in a variety of disciplines: legal, information security, compliance, privacy, and fraud. We also created an overarching ERM program, with a dashboard and KRIs, to facilitate management oversight and monitoring. Over the years at Simple I also had responsibility for the corporate IT team providing internal services, and product security / security engineering.Simple was a fintech pioneer on a mission to foster confidence in money through personal banking. Founded in 2009 and based in Portland, Oregon, Simple customers received a Simple Visa® Card tied to an FDIC-insured account with no surprise fees, and powerful budgeting and savings tools built right into the account. Simple was acquired by BBVA USA, who closed the company following the announcement of a merger with PNC.

As the Information Security Officer at Umpqua Bank, I led the bank Information Security program. The program consisted of a team of professionals working closely with colleagues in the Technology Advancement (IT) organization and business units. Program areas included information security governance, ongoing risk assessment, evaluation of appropriate security controls, security awareness, project and product development consultation, incident response program management, and proactive compliance with industry regulations related to information security.Prior to serving in the role of Information Security Officer, I worked in the Internal Audit organization of the bank. As the Senior IT Auditor, I performed a series of high profile audits based on a risk-based annual audit plan. Audit work was performed in line with professional standards and FFIEC guidance. Audit work resulted in a number of positive 'Return on Quality' assessments from bank departments. In addition to audits, I had the opportunity to contribute to significant improvements in our third party (vendor) risk management and business continuity programs.

As a Manager with Moss Adams Consulting, I led IT management consulting, information security, and IT audit engagements. Relevant engagements included IT strategic plans and organization studies, SAS70 (later SOC1 and SOC2) audits, PCI Reports on Compliance (ROC), vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, disaster recovery consulting, IT governance, IT planning, system selection, policy development, and regulatory compliance engagements.From 2006-2009 as a Senior Consultant, I specialized in providing services to our state/local government industry group. As a Manager, I transitioned my focus to the Financial Services industry group, serving community banks and credit unions.

In my first role after college (and while pursuing my graduate degree), I worked as an Information Security Consultant with IBM Global Services. I consulted with the security programs at several financial services organizations. My work included management consulting related to policies and security management systems such as the ISO 17799 (27002) and COBIT frameworks. I worked with clients to evaluate the security risks and mitigations in web applications, and had the opportunity to work with the IBM Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) division to plan and implement Security Operations Center services (firewall, IDS monitoring, and system log monitoring and incident escalation) at a large financial services firm.

While I was an undergraduate college student, I had the opportunity to work part-time as an IS Analyst with the City of Portland. During that time I was promoted from IS Analyst II to Principal IS Analyst. My work involved serving as a network/systems administrator responsible for server and Windows/Novell network administration at the Police Bureau from 2001-2003, and then from 2003-2005 I served as a system administrator and project manager with the Corporate GIS and online teams in the Bureau of Technology Services (BTS). In that role, I had the opportunity to work on projects in the areas of geographic information systems (PortlandMaps.com), content management (PortlandOnline.com), payment processing (on-street "SmartMeter" credit card processing), and electronic bill payment (Water Bureau online billing). As the City built a professionalized project management office, I helped develop and implement project lifecycle controls that focused on project initiation and approval processes, information security review and risk assessment, testing, and quality assurance.
