Recruited by the Jostens Chief Executive Officer to turn the college and sports markets profitable. Responsible for the strategic leadership of the College and Sports business unit, directed and coordinated the activities of the College team supporting the strategy, and had overall P&L responsibility for the business. Led over 300 division employees in sales, marketing, finance and analytics, licensing, customer service, and order processing with dotted line responsibility for information technology and human resources.

Initially recruited from sister company CMW to bring a marketing discipline to Carlson Hotels. Promoted after one year to lead the overall brand marketing efforts for the entire CHW system in North America which included five brands and 700 properties. Managed a marketing staff of 22 and was responsible for advertising, promotion, web sales and marketing, hotel loyalty program, and B2B channel programs. Managed a sales & marketing fund of $50 million and was a member of CHW’s Guiding Coalition.

Promoted to focus on leading a team of consumer marketing experts to drive new CMW sales by developing relationship marketing programs for prospective clients across a broad range of industries. Heavy emphasis on designing initiatives to enhance client profitability by increasing loyalty between client companies and their consumers. Responsible for new solution sales support and development, developing new services for our consumer business, and transferring intellectual knowledge to CMW's sales and client management teams.

Primary goals were profitable growth and expansion of existing client relationships by helping them market more effectively to their end consumers. Held general management/full P&L responsibility for a variety of client marketing programs generating over $50 million in annual sales and directly employing over 100 Carlson associates. Clients included Merrill Lynch, BASF, Sprint and Famous Footwear.

Recruited to help increase sales and profits in Ecolab's third largest division. Led development and implementation of the $100 million division's strategic plan focusing on new product introductions and service improvements. Scope of responsibility encompassed developing and implementing advertising/promotion strategies and programs, market research, market segment development, and new program and service development.

For Kentucky Fried Chicken, recruited to increase focus on the end customer and drive more discipline into the marketing function. In Louisville, managed an eight-person project team in developing innovative new products. Also managed KFC’s African-American and kids advertising agencies with responsibility for $7 million budget. In Chicago, developed strategy, directed marketing program development, and program implementation for 13-state North Central Division. Division encompassed nearly 900 franchise and company restaurants accounting for $200 million in annual revenue. Supervised six direct reports. Promoted twice in a 3-year period.

Led the new adult cereal product development in the company’s most profitable division. Coordinated all aspects of concept and product development and testing, as well as preparation and implementation of introductory marketing and sales plans. Directed the efforts of advertising agencies, market research, research and development, and operations.
