"As technology changes the skills needed for each profession, workers will have to adjust. That will mean making education and training flexible enough to teach new skills quickly and efficiently." - The Economist, "March of the Machines," 25 June 2016 Problem: there is a shortage of qualified software engineers, but online courses cannot credibly recommend all of their graduates for engineering jobs and in-person programs are incentivized to charge upfront, making them less responsive to whether their graduates find jobs afterwards or not.Solution: an in-person, immersive software engineering bootcamp where tuition is deferred until after a graduate has secured a job.Result: App Academy pioneered the deferred tuition model among coding bootcamps, trains more than 700 engineers per year between New York and San Francisco, and incentivizes everyone at the company to focus on improving career outcomes for its students. By helping people from all walks of life re-orient their careers to the needs of the new economy, immersive bootcamps like App Academy are an increasingly important part of how society unlocks latent human potential. My role: led the operations and finance division, responsible for financial infrastructure, analytics, and generally getting people whatever they needed to thrive. Led strategic projects (e.g., ensuring a clean audit of our financial statements, securing new headquarters space, receiving regulatory approval in both CA and NY) and wrote and deployed software to automate tactical necessities (e.g., invoicing and financial reporting; tracking our placement rate across all active cohorts; setting daily priorities).

    Leveltrigger Mar 2014 - Apr 2016
Problem: data about in-person consumer purchases are fragmented across firms and government agencies, making it difficult to understand economic activity on a real-time basis or below the census tract level.Solution: a SaaS mapping platform that translates merchant-level transaction data from MasterCard into a unified view of economic activity at the block level.Result: retailers can drill down into consumer spending dynamics of any city block in the US, Canada, Australia, or the UK, with applications in site selection, competitive analysis, and micro-targeted marketing. My role: business co-founder and head of product for the software platform.

Problem: many commercial NLP systems still require users to define an "ontology" (i.e., a dictionary of terms indicating how to interpret specific words); these ontologies are slow to build, inflexible, and insensitive to variations in language over time.Solution: an ontology-free, flexible parser that natively understands concepts, not simply words, and how those concepts relate to one another in any language or set of texts.Result: customer insight and marketing teams derive faster and more accurate NLP-based understanding across a range of applications, including sentiment analysis, social media listening, and automatic classification of unstructured data. My role: ran five outbound business development campaigns, converting 19% of cold enterprise prospects into qualified leads and securing a handful of marquee brand partnerships.Profile of Luminoso's work for the 2014 World Cup: http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/blog/startups/2014/05/how-cambridge-startup-luminoso-is-helping-to-power.html

Problem: the proliferation of virtualized servers has created unexpected bottlenecks and sluggish performance within enterprise data centers.Solution: a shared server-side memory cache to absorb more I/O requests before they ever reached central storage controllers.Result: system administrators accelerate data center operations and scale performance with VM growth. My role: tested, refined, and validated early-stage value propositions with alpha customers.Series B fundraising coverage:http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/blog/startups/2013/12/infinio-gets-12m-series-b-2nd-round.html
