Profile bio

About Dave Meyer

My parents got our first PC when I was 7 years old. It was an IBM PC with a cool “Turbo” button on the front that would jump the CPU clock speed from 8 MHz to a blistering 40 MHz. I instantly loved it and what seemed like the infinite possibilities this machine was capable of. A few years later, I discovered QBasic and basic computer programming on the same computer, and another world appeared before me. Using only the help files and LOTS of trial and error, I began to create simple games for myself and my younger brothers to play. I was hooked.Even as my education and experience has pulled back the curtain on the art of programming over the years, I am still in awe of the “magic” of it. I love the fact that a simple idea and a blank file are enough to begin the creation of something that can impact the world – or how we interact with it. This was no more apparent to me when I moved into the world of industrial control systems where I was able to combine ideas and blank files to cause real-world equipment to move! A simple click of a mouse on one side of the world can travel via light pulses, radio waves, and electrical signals to the other side of the world and can cause a light to turn on, a valve to close, or a pump to start – magic indeed.I am a technologist and programmer to the core. It’s my passion to dissect problems and apply technology to automate tasks and eliminate issues.

After the aggregation and pre-processing of the data, Microsoft Power BI was used to generate Alarm Management dashboards for the business. These dashboards became an integral part of my recurring alarm management presentations to management. The High-Performance Graphics Initiative provided a different set of challenges. The main purpose of the initiative was to update the process graphics in the control center to be compliant with industry standards, best practices, and the latest in human factors research. While there were some technical hurdles, the largest challenge was getting the acceptance of the rest of the business – as the proposed changes were quite different from the traditional graphics that were used.
