It is time for me to retire. I planned on announcing this at DSE, but COVID-19 has gotten in the way. Now retirement means many things to many people. For me it simply means it is time for the next phase in what has been and continues to be a wonderful journey. My immediate family, and friends I count as family, have always been at the heart and soul of what I do and who I am. Whether helping to run or supporting our fifty-year-old non-profit (Camp Herrlich) or high school or college friends that have stayed in touch – I look forward to having more time to explore our friendships and our leisure interests. On the professional side I have also been extremely lucky. I have been deeply involved in the birth of two industries. I began in the computer industry in 1981 when 8” floppy discs were high tech and 16MB of RAM was the norm. Later in my career I was engaged at the first stages of what is now known as the digital signage industry, before it was even called digital signage. Back then, over 20 years ago, I served on one of the POPAI standards committees that helped name it. Many of the colleagues I have met on those fabulous journeys have become friends. Most of you know who you are and how much I have appreciated your professionalism, your experience, and your guidance as we navigated these past 45 years or so together. My latest adventure has been as a consultant, working with Jonathan and Alan Brawn, using my experience to help people and their business. I appreciated the experience of being meaningfully involved. I will stay in touch and if an interesting project comes along, I will consider joining in on the fun. I have had the opportunity to make a difference in the world, and so far, I have done my best to keep trying. I am not going away. I am just beginning the next chapter, hopefully filled with years of laughter, exciting new adventures, good health, love and joy and peace. I am looking forward to spending much more time with my family, my wife of 46 years Patti, my children, our extended families, and the passion of my life – Mt Tremper Outdoor Ministries at Camp Herrlich. You may hear from me again as I look to build an endowment for the camp, supporting my commitment to its mission and helping others to step in so it can continue to thrive for the next fifty years.
