Dave helped grow Inside Business from a start-up monthly publication to a respected weekly business journal with editions in Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia. He oversaw the growth of the editorial team, from three people to more than 25 over a three-year period. A week or two later, I received a letter from a mother who told me she made her two teenage daughters read the piece as a starting point to a long discussion of the dangers of drug use.I wrote a story about a young man, a star athlete in high school, who suffered third-degree burns over 85 percent of his body in an industrial accident -- and about his long and valiant effort to recover and build a new life.I wrote about a legal battle that started with a judge declaring a fetus a "child in need of protective services" because of the mother's mental health problems. Then, having found her to be "a danger to others," he ordered her into involuntary commitment.It was the best job any newspaper ever had to offer. Show less
