Led the development of a new data processing pipeline from the ground up utilizing a real-time distributed architecture. Throughout the development of the system I was manager, visionary, programmer and project manager for a team of Java engineers, testers and devops. Throughout the project we innovated using cutting-edge technologies including Hadoop, HBase and the Storm real-time distributed processing system. The entire system was built and deployed on top of Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Designed and led the development of a 50+ terabyte scale clinical data warehouse for electronic medical record data utilizing Hadoop as the core storage and batch query tool. Other supporting tools include Spark, Storm, HBase, RabbitMQ, Spring Batch, Cascalog, Cascading. Established specialized machine learning and big data techniques for standardization of medical record terms and descriptions.

Managed a team of 10 software developers and 7 support personnel in development and support of a veterinary practice information management system. Managed a yearly budget of $2.5 million consistently on budget year after year. Accomplished 2 major releases and 6 service packs per year within 10% project accuracy. Responsible for design and construction of application with 2 million+ lines of code written in Powerbuilder, Java, C, and C++. Responsible for development of tools for use in conversion of customer data from competitive applications. Created a process to separate new product development from current product support resulting in better predictability and quality of service packs and new releases. Worked with business leaders to define and plan new software features and schedules. Successfully converted development processes from waterfall to agile/scrum methodology.

Managed a team of 6 IT Technicians and software developers maintaining up to 300 workstations, 55 servers, 3 external VPN and WAN connections, 3 different sites and a telecommunications sytem consisting of 250 extensionsInfrastructure consisted of a heterogeneous environment including Microsoft Windows, Novell Netware, Linux, SCO Unix all seamlessly interconnected on the desktop.Planned and successfully executed the migration from a predominently Novell Netware Directory Services environment to Microsoft Windows Domain and later to Active Directory.Managed a yearly budget of $2 million consistently on budget year after year.Planned and executed the wiring and infrastructure in a newly constructed building as well as the move into the new building with little business impact.Oversaw the migration of the telecommunications sytem from Mitel to Lucent with minimal business disruption.Introduced Linux as a server operating system to the company.
