Acting on his entrepreneurial instincts, Dave approached El Paso-based Petro Stopping Centers, at that time a small regional chain, with this concept.After opening the first Petro:Lube in 1983, Dave built Petro:Lube into a cornerstone service offering of Petro Stopping Centers – one which provided a strong competitive differentiation from other truckstop chains. As an executive vice-president of Petro, Dave oversaw the expansion of Petro:Lube to 69 locations, providing more than 300,000 oil changes per year. The Petro:Lube business unit achieved annual sales of $200 million and generated operating profit margins of 25%, accounting for more than 50% of Petro’s overall EBITDA.
