About Dave Lochtie

As I graduated from my Undergraduate degree I was elected to serve as Vice President of the Students' Union at Bournemouth University and knew instantly I wanted to dedicate my career to education where I have remained, in one form or another, ever since. From teaching vowel sounds to 4 year olds to sitting on the Council of a University I have seen the transformative power of education. I have been honoured to serve institutions that have made a real difference to the lives of many in terms of their skills, aspirations and achievements. My published research and conference presenting/keynote speaking has focused primarily on personal tutoring/academic advising and international comparative education.

  • National Academic Advising Association
    Editorial Board Member And Reviewer
National Academic Advising Association Jan 2019 - Sep 2020
    Kansas City, Missouri Area
NACADA is the global community for academic advising. The NACADA REVIEW: Academic Advising Praxis and Perspectives is a peer-reviewed, online academic journal which connects the practice of academic advising to theory from related, relevant fields spanning education, the humanities and social sciences. The NACADA Review puts theory-based application center stage. As an Editorial Board member I review submissions for the journal prior to publication, working with authors to develop articles and help ensure they are to the high standards to which NACADA requires. The Review’s editors subscribe to the interpretation of scholarship as suggested by Ernest Boyer (1990) in which the creation and integration of new knowledge go hand in hand with a commitment to its application and dissemination. This dynamic relationship between theory and practice is also known as ‘praxis,’ the process through which new knowledge and theoretical frameworks help practice evolve and improve. The articles published in the NACADA Review contribute to this process of ‘praxis’ by presenting ways in which practice can be understood in terms of theory, and theory can inform practice.
