As Executive Director of AILU, my role is to continue to deliver the World Class events, publications and activities for which AILU has become internationally renowned. Headquartered in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, AILU has an international reach, and a pedigree dating back to 1995 when the founder members sought to connect the industry and provide a UK base to promote the adoption of laser technology, encouraging efficiency improvements and innovation in manufacturing.Primarily, AILU:- Promotes the use of lasers in manufacturing- Facilitates excellent workshops, seminars and networking events for laser users- Encourages Special Interest Groups (SIGs) including a very active Laser Jobshop Group- Publishes a magazine, The Laser User, 4 times per year and a monthly e-newsletter- Shares news, application case studies, academic papers and other industrial laser content- Organises the ILAS (Industrial Laser Applications Symposium) regularly (next one 2025)- Connects the laser community with funding bodies to promote development and research- Supports students, researchers, lecturers in academic and research institutions- Offers practical advice on business and technical matters to the laser community
