Messenger & Instagram AR Experiences. Building engaging 0->1 AR experiences across Messenger & IG video calling that reduce friction, enhance expressivity, and make people more comfortable in calls. Focus on setting strategic vision, driving complex XFN dependencies across products, and iterating to PMF for new experiences. I built & supported an organization spanning from California to London -- our teams operate a bit like a start up built on top of a 1+ billion user product base.

Messenger Visual Messaging. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and our mission is to enable our 1+ billion users to express themselves more through photos, videos, and expression tools. Whether it's through AR, stickers, GIFs, photos, or videos, we help people share the moments that matter with the people they care about most. We focus on building innovative new experiences with high quality, performance, and data-driven iteration. Supported client and infrastructure teams, grew the org by more than 3x, and hired/recruited multiple engineering leaders across the Bay Area & Seattle.Quality champion for the Messenger org, developing, refining, and driving multiple quality & better engineering initiatives impacting hundreds of engineers across some of Facebook's largest products. These programs are responsible for improved developer efficiency as well as shipping higher quality releases to more than a billion users across the globe.Authored or co-authored 3 patents related to visual messaging and AR communication modes.

Google Photos Auto Awesome Movies. Supported engineers building innovative video editing and creation experiences on Android & iOS. Designed systems, collaborated closely with PM and design to build best-in-class mobile user experiences, recruited talent, and supported and grew engineers. My teams made user's content beautiful, magical, and easy to share. I always said my goal for this team was to create content that would make people cry, and I did just that when Google Photos created my first auto-generated movie of my daughter when she turned 1 year old.Over nearly a decade at Google, I conducted 195 interviews (both onsite and phone-screens) and authored or coauthored 29 patents.

Google+ Events. Engineering efforts for this product spanned continents and involved pulling in dozens of engineers in order to make our timeline. This project gave me experience leading large distributed teams, building shared infrastructure, and launching polished products under tight deadlines. This project was featured in the keynote at Google I/O 2013.

Google+ Photos. Founding engineer on the Photos team responsible for architecting and implementing the product from the ground up, as well as mentoring and building out the engineering team. Worked closely with design & product to build out a feature set that redefined what a social photos experience could be. This project was eventually spun off into the standalone Google Photos product.

Gmail. I was a member of the team that build and launched Gmail Chat which redefined what web chat could be. I contributed to an ambitious frontend rewrite, authored many Gmail Labs (anyone remember Old Snakey?), and countless numbers of features.Recipient of a Founder's Award (Google's most prestigious award) for scope and impact of work on Gmail.

Designed and developed Price Protectr, named by Entrepreneur Magazine/Media as one of the "100 Brilliant Companies of 2011." The service provided free price monitoring services for consumer purchase transactions from large retailers. Price Protectr has been featured on Yahoo Tech, PC Magazine, PC World, the NY Times/Post, Chicago Tribune, CNN, MSNBC, the Morning Show, NBC/CBS/ABC nightly news, San Jose Mercury News, and many others. The company was sold in a private transaction in May 2011.

Developed a J2EE workflow engine, Swing process design IDE, and suite of JSP workflow applications.

Research, design, and development work with the Experience Factory knowledge management model. Published papers on the state of the art and state of the practice of Agile methods. Developed real-time collaboration tools and the Visual Query Interface data visualization product.
