I worked as a freelance medical device consultant, helping to bring new devices to market and improving the DICOM capabilities of existing ones, primarily in the United States.

Represented TomoTherapy (now Accuray) at DICOM WG7 (RT) and IHE-RO industry groups; Provided consulting services on connectivity strategy and product architecture; Implemented components of DICOM infrastructure including RT Workflow and prototyping of second-generation RT objects.

Directed engineering effort for TomoTherapy (now part of Accuray), a Wisconsin-based medical device start-up, building medical linear accelerators for radiation therapy treatment of cancer. Engineering department grew from approximately 10 to over 100 in period 2000-2003, and TomoTherapy listed on the NASDAQ then was subsequently taken over by Accuray. TomoTherapy's Hi-Art product is a multi-million dollar FDA class III medical device, with microwave, detector, and RF waveguide hardware technologies, and both real-time control and workstation software components. Also continued as chairman of DICOM WG7, representing TomoTherapy.

Remote consultant to RT Workstation Group, Buc (France). Continued product design and implementation work for the Advantage Sim product, and continued as chair of DICOM WG7.

RT Workstation Group, Buc (France). Responsible for product design for the Advantage Sim radiation therapy virtual simulation product. This software is part of GE's Advantage Windows product family, and is used for planning radiation therapy delivery from CT image sets. Also served as GE's representative at DICOM WG7 (RT), an international standards organisation for medical device communication in radiation therapy, and became chair of that group.
