Vessel schedulers for the Port of Newcastle is a continuation role from the Vessel Traffic Services position and was formed as part of the privatisation of the port. We are responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective management of all shipping movements within the harbour limits. All schedules within the harbour movements must comply with the strict safety protocols, and must take into account asset availability, tidal restraints, and multiple shipping movements on a single channel. It is vital to have a good situational awareness as well be organised, methodical, and analytical. The schedule is constantly evolving and requires constant attention to maintain the requirements of our customers. The role is very customer service orientated which requires excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Over the past few years I have built an excellent rapport with our customers which helps in scheduling conflicts and to liaise with multiple customers, government authorities, and stakeholders. This position is operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
