My hobby is collecting skills. I love learning and my curiosity about the world around me knows no bounds. We are in the age of information, lack of knowledge is an ailment that can be cured. Everything about the medical field fascinates me and working on a Medical/ Surgical floor has really helped my overall understanding of the hospital. I understand to power the behemoth that is a hospital, everyone from dietary, environmental, and Sterile Processing all the way to the Attendings; we are all needed. I do not just walk from room to room going through my daily task, I move with purpose. Sometimes that purpose is checking a blood pressure on a hypertensive patient we are monitoring and reporting it to the nurse, other times it is asking a family member if the kids are thirsty and offering them a juice so that they are comfortable. Showing that kindness and care translate to how I will be treating their family member for their stay. I truly shine when it comes to communication. I believe that a majority of problems that befall a unit comes from lack of communication. I make sure that I am the bridge between the patient and the nurse. When the RNs are all running around in a rush because something unforeseen has taken place I make sure to communicate with the patients and make sure they feel heard and they have an understanding of how things are going on the floor.
