At Second Chance Equine and Canine Rescue, we rescue, care for, and train abandoned and abused horses, allowing them an opportunity to find a loving forever home and have a life full of love and dignity. Our journey started when our founder, Dave, met his majestic Arabian horse Iceman, two years ago for. He was mistreated, malnourished, and left behind by his owner. It was hard not to notice the scars on his back given to him by his abusive ex-owner or his bony physique due to malnutrition caused by lack of dental care and proper diet. The traumatized horse did not let anyone near him, but he did let Dave pet him. Dave saw the kindness and the sorrow in his eyes and realized that one of his purposes in life was to help this horse, so he bought the horse from his ex-owner and started caring for him. A couple of months later, Dave lost someone very important to him and suffered severe depression. He exclaims “To some extent my inside looked the outside of this horse”. Even during this dark phase of his life, Dave continued to care for Iceman and in return he was given more love and support than he could have asked for. The horse was traumatized due to abject abuse that he suffered in the past, but found a way to overcome it and trust again. Iceman has now gained over 300 lbs, has overcome his anemia, has impeccable teeth, and has even won ribbons. Dave does not know if he rescued the horse or the horse rescued him, but he had found his calling in to make a difference in life of these horses. Till now, we have rescued and rehabilitated three horses and are tirelessly working on rescuing more of them. Our goal is take an abandoned or an abused horse and work with it holistically to restore its body, mind, and heart, so they are ready to give their all to a responsible horse lover who would treasure them for rest of their days. We commit to use all donated funds solely for the purposes of rescue, nutrition, and medical treatment of the animals.
