The challenge is ensuring that this highly integrated system works on an ever increasing, huge customer base. It needs to be simple enough to handle a "Mom & Pop" shipper, yet sophisticated enough to efficiently provide solutions for Fortune 100 companies. It needs to work flawlessly on all Windows based operating systems in all supported foreign languages across more than 130 countries worldwide. To meet these high demands, we're always in the "inventing" mode. Our systems tend to be too large for typical solutions that don't scale to our needs nor have the capability to handle the complexity of our business rules and software development processes.     Information Services strategic planning. Worldwide software development. Two Recent Projects:Project 1: The Enterprise Portfolio Test Practice Project focused on leading seven application development portfolios to assess their “As-Is” testing state and determine the appropriate transformations for their “To-Be” testing state. The complexity of the project was that it was comprehensive and touched on People, Process, Tools, and Environment. It also had a large span of control with frequent interactions with our CIO, ALM Steering Committee senior management team, senior management, each portfolio leader and their subject matter experts, Shared Services, PLS (Test Tools & Defect Management), Finance & Accounting, Human Resources, Learning & Development, Accenture, IBM, and HP. My job role was that of a Project Manager, leading 13 staff that contained a Project Manager, Project Leaders, Team Leads, and Consultants.Project 2: The Portfolio Test Practice Project focused on working with the Enterprise Test Organization, HR and Portfolio Senior Management, 5 app-dev portfolios, and leading 9 portfolio QA teams and various development teams doing QA roles across the NJ/MD/GA campuses. There were enterprise wide as well as portfolio specific initiatives. The complexity of the project was that all interactions needed to be influenced with no direct lines of authority. Financial goals were surpassed by close to a million dollars while still accomplishing all aspects and deliverables of the program on time: (1) Utilize global development resources to reduce costs, (2) Expand use of automation and automation frameworks, (3) Transition testing of DI applications from Development to QA, (4) Improve test processes and utilization of ALM artifacts. Further value was added by analyzing key projects and recommending improvements (Open Account, FGV, MyChoice). Note: The project was significantly larger than what can be listed here.
