Business in the Community stands for responsible business and in this role I challenged, engaged and supported businesses in the East Midlands region to participate in impactful community programmes through employee volunteering. Helping businesses address social issues in areas of great need via programmes such as Employee Volunteering, Give & Gain Day, Business Class, RISE, Ready for Work and ClickSilver includes many of the programmes I helped to manage. The role's focus was primarily to:• Sustain and grow business engagement in Community Impact programmes such as Employee Volunteering, Business Class, Give & Gain Day, Mosaic and many more. • Focus on recruiting and retaining the businesses through building relationships and providing excellent customer service and programme management.• Support businesses in accessing advice, training, evaluation, networking opportunities and a broad range of volunteering opportunities• Build and implement opportunities to engage schools and community groups, looking for alternative funding and creating new projects. • Responsible for event management and planning; including training sessions and volunteer workshops. • Maintain and support budgetary control for programmes and work with the Area East senior management team to secure appropriate funding for projects, helping to prepare bids and proposals. • Support the wider work of the East Midlands BITC Team.

In this role I project managed a mentoring scheme that recruited, trained and supervised over 120 university students to act as a mentor to raise aspirations of 14-19 yr olds in schools and colleges across Nottinghamshire. Linked to the former Aimhigher initiative, the programme targeted students who fit into the Widening Participation cohort where they would have been the first in the family to attend university. The programme sat alongside of other schemes for students as part of the Students in Classrooms initiative, in the Schools Colleges and Community Outreach dept.My role's focus was to:• Coordinate and raise awareness of NTU’s Mentoring programmes, and develop new programmes.• Recruit, train and supervise staff and student mentoring placements• Liaise and build relationships with schools and colleges in the local community, and advise on mentoring best practice.• Contribute to wider outreach work of NTU’s Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach service.

Starting as a part time staff member and climbing the ranks to a Cinema Manager during my time here, I would have full responsibly for the cinema while on shift.
