Alarm.com is the leading platform for home and business security and automation. As a senior iOS developer, I drove several cross team initiatives. I led the conversion of the entire app to dark mode, helping dozens of developers update hundreds of screens over two years. I added Siri Shortcut support to the app, and helped others add further shortcuts. I designed a framework for action sheets that was easily adopted by several feature teams. I also worked independently to deliver many smaller features including customizations for partners.

ThinkingPhones for iOS is a corporate communications application providing text, voice and conferencing services. As senior developer in a team of four, I solved several of its toughest performance issues and core data crashes. I also implemented native resolution support, and assisted in converting the app from Objective-C to Swift. The application supported iOS 7 and 8. It was edited and profiled with XCode and Instruments. Code was written in Objective-C and Swift, and shared with Github. UI was defined in Interface Builder .nib files with autolayout. The project was agile, with issues tracked in Jira, and larger tasks in Kanban.

Akario Backline is a secure chat application for medical professionals. Working remotely with the multi-disciplinary team, I wrote the 4.0 iOS client from scratch. We not only met the aggressive four month deadline, but notably improved usability, performance and reliability. The previous version took an external team almost a full year and consisted of almost six times as much code.Backline was written with XCode, and supported iOS 6, 7 and 8. Source was written in Objective-C and shared with Git. UI was defined in Interface Builder storyboards with struts and springs. Tasks, issues and time were tracked in Jira.

Spinlet is part music label, part cloud music service, for local African music. You can stream and download curated content, as well as the songs already on your device. I led the iOS and BlackBerry client team, consisting of myself and two junior developers. I designed the architecture, implemented the ui layer, oversaw the model and network layers, and managed app store configuration and submissions. Spinlet for iOS was written in Objective-C with XCode. Spinlet for BlackBerry was written in Java (JDK1.3) with the BlackBerry Plug-in for Eclipse. The iOS UI was specified entirely in storyboards; on BlackBerry it was entirely code. Source was shared with Git. Tasks and defects were tracked in Jira.

Facebook for BlackBerry is a mobile application with millions of users. I designed and implemented the user interface for its mailbox and chat - these have been praised as the most important and easy to use in the application. Work in other areas of the application consisted of push notification support, defect fixes for UI, scrolling, localization, transport, threading, deadlocks and more. Agile sprints and tasks were managed in Rally. The language was Java (JDK1.3). Source was developed in BlackBerry JDE and Eclipse, reviewed in Code Collaborator and controlled in Perforce. Bugs were reported in MKS Integrity.

RTEdge is a model driven development tool for real time applications. I generated its diagram plug-ins using PDE, EMF, GEF, GMF, Draw2D and of course SWT and XML. My updates to its meta-model involved EMF, Model Transaction, CNF, XML, and XMI. I created icons for the tool with GIMP, considering team feedback and Eclipse user interface guidelines to ensure consistency. I implemented the model level debugger as extensions of the experimental debug support framework, also using GDB, GDB-MI, GMF, and Eclipse markers, decorators and jobs. Source was internationalized with Eclipse NLS support and controlled in CVS. Bugs were reported in Bugzilla and unit tests were written in JUnit. RTEdge 1.1 is an Eclipse application, written with Eclipse 3.3 and Java SE 6 on Windows clients; it generated C++ applications for VxWorks, Linux and Solaris targets.

(Started at Rational as Staff Software Engineer. Rational purchased by IBM 2003).Rational Software Architect (RSA) is a model driven development tool for C++ and J2EE applications and web services. Rational Software Modeler (RSM) is a more general modeling and design tool. I designed and implemented their UML to Java transformation plug-in using Eclipse PDE, JDT, UML and extensions. Transport Node User Interface (TNUI) was a graphical network element management application. I designed and implemented TNUI framework layers and features, receiving a patent for the TL1 engine, a layer providing a higher level of abstraction to transaction language. The engine’s simple, abstract interface drastically reduced the complexity and development time of its clients. TNUI was a Java application written with Symantec Café, Swing and J2SE 1.2. Source was internationalized with default Java support and controlled in ClearCase.
