Chief ArchitectPicsolve International Jan 2013 - Aug 2014• Technical leadership for all product development, ensuring that systems are resilient, performant, and scalable, and using appropriate technologies that can be supported by the online operations and field support engineers, including emergent technology analysis. This included deployment automation to ensure continuous deployments were available, enabling multiple production deployments per day.• Responsible for the design from the ground up of Picsolve's next generation global platform, including on-park, mobile, and web channels, in order to support the business vision.• Designed the next generation platform to run in a hybrid cloud environment, allowing multiple layers of hardware and virtualised redundancy and resiliency, ensuring maximum operational uptime. This used Couchbase and Couchbase Lite in order to handle cross-data centre replication and network fragility.• Designed the scalable RESTful API, backed by Couchbase and implemented in Scala, to be used by all internal and external consumers including EPOS and iOS/Android applications. This also included cloud automation, in order to handle auto-scaling arrays of servers in order to optimise operational expenditure, using CloudFormation and Chef.• Created strategic partnerships with 3rd parties for data sharing and analysis.• Ensured DevOps principles were adhered to in order to ensure production deliverables by the software team were tested, fit for purpose, secure, stable, and scalable, as well as allowing deployment flexibility of software artifacts. Improved development to production times by an order of magnitude.• Responsible for technical interviews and CV vetting of new hires in the R&D team.• Responsible for future technology analysis, including facial recognition, and NFC and barcode systems.• Presented at Couchbase Live London and keynoted at Big Data Week at the request of Couchbase, describing how Picsolve used Couchbase in hostile environments.
